Stegosauria
SaraH
An extinct order of herbivorous dinosaurs,
including the genera Stegosaurus, Omosaurus, and their allies. Stegosaurian dinosaurs are herbivorous
and four legged. They are unique in their two longitudinal rows of plates
and spines on the back to tail and are up to 9 m in length. They appear to have
five fingers per “hand”, but only three functional toes per foot. Stegosaurians
flourished during Jurassic period and are unique among ornithischians for their
lack of ossified tendons, a feature which could be related to the peculiar form
of the dorsals Their small teeth and forelimbs indicate the feeding habit of
browsing on small plants. Plates might have been used for thermo-regulation.
